Christmas 2010

I think we celebrated Christmas every day of December this year.   We made cookies, cupcakes, and even ornaments.  The Grinch and Elf were on non-stop and J woke up nearly every morning asking if Santa had come.  We went a little crazy with gifts, especially since the little ones are at such a great toy age and J has been very focused on getting a Buzz Lightyear action figure.  He never wavered from saying he wanted that, although, he did throw in "and a dragon" a few times.    

We celebrated Christmas Eve at Grandma's and Papaw's house and had a great time sled riding behind the quad.  Even V and I got in on the action and my little scaredy cat actually giggled the whole time.  After we were all adequately frozen, we warmed up with some hot apple cider by the fire. V never was far from her "throne" at the end of the counter munching on trail mix.  She loves that spot for some reason.  The McDonalds's cash register was the hit present, but the apple pie set was the best considering this is a family that celebrates National Pie Day.  Of course, no Christmas at Papaw and Grandma's is complete without the twice baked potatoes and cut out cookies.  Papaw is a little obsessed with those, but thankfully Grandma humors him because they are so yummy to eat.

M and I were up until 1:30 AM setting up the toys and morning came way too early, but seeing how happy the kids were with their gifts was worth it.  V loved her kitchen so much that she really wasn't interested in opening anything else.  C got several things he really seemed to like, but we found him later playing with his old stuffed mouse.  Some toys are just beloved and cannot be replaced no matter what shiny new competition Christmas brings.   J, of course, loved all his Buzz stuff and was even wearing the Buzz hooded towel to complete his outfit.

We celebrated Kentucky Christmas on New Year's Eve and the big news that uncle Todd was engaged and expecting with his girlfriend, J.  She already is a wonderful addition to the family and we're so excited about the new niece or nephew!  Christmas next year is going to be so neat with a new one to spoil and cuddle.  :)   I thought for sure the kids get tired from opening all of the presents there - there were at least 30  for each kid - but they were thrilled with each one.  The remote control cars were hits with the boys, but V was all about the doll house and the bath doll.  The adults loved the Nerf guns and several battles ensued.

I have no idea where I'm going to put all of the new toys, get them off the month long sugar buzz, or how we're going to get back on a routine starting tomorrow, but oh well.  They had an absolutely wonderful Christmas and that makes me feel like the luckiest mom in the world, disaster house and all.
