Nothing says Christmas like a staph infection. J and V both got them but V's didn't get better and didn't respond to antibiotics. She was sick from the 24th on and ended up having to be admitted for IV antibiotics on the 28th. Definitely not a good way to spend your first Christmas. The poor thing inherited my impossible-to-find veins and they didn't get the IV in until the fourth try. It was so heartbreaking to see her cry so much. Once we got that out of the way, though, the actual stay wasn't too bad. She was a real trooper and definitely charmed the nurses.
M had 18 days of leave, which made it the first time we all spent more than 4 days together in 10 months. Even with the sickness, it was nice just to be together like a regular family. We got to spend lots of time with the extended family including P's and her family who stayed with us for a few days. C, J and CC had a great time playing together and the Wii that we got C was a big hit. J loved the cookie-making set that Santa brought and it went well with the tea set that V received. They definitely got way, way too much stuff, but I don't think they minded. Mom, however, will probably need until next Christmas to find a place for all their loot.
