I decided to head back to Cincy just before my birthday. We had only been in Colorado a week after Thanksgiving, but the thought of not sleeping in my own bed on my birthday just did not sit well. The trip back was luckily uneventful but I didn't end up bringing Java, about which I am still pretty conflicted.
Grandma and Papaw took us out to dinner at the Irish restaurant down the street for my birthday. Jess and N were able to join so the highchairs almost outnumbered the adult chairs, but it was still a nice, though sticky, time.
J's birthday present to Mommy was putting candle glue all over his head. Just in case he needed to hold the birthday candles on his melon instead of a cake. The stuff was in our junk drawer, which has a safety latch, and the little stinker was able to contort his hand in there and bypass the latch. Nine shampoos and a 45-minute shower later, it still didn't come out of his hair. Vivi even climbed in the shower, jammies and all, to help and that stuff didn't budge. The calls went out to several different seasoned moms for their advice, but I ultimately ended up just letting it be. Shaving his head or dousing him in peanut butter, olive oil, or Goo Gone all sounded like far worse fates than having a candle glue head. Thankfully, it's not obvious unless you touch his hair. His father will be home in 3 days; we're just going to consider it a very thick pomade until then.

Oh, and the cake, which didn't need J's help holding the candles, was delicious (thanks Grandma and Papaw!). J enjoyed it so much that he helped himself to a second helping when I left the room later that night. He does love his cake, so I should have anticipated it.
